Windows May Get an ARM Twist

Microsoft may give its mobile aspirations a shot in the arm with a new version of Windows designed to run on ARM processors. The new OS might be Windows 8 and not a stripped-down version of Windows 7 or a beefed-up version of Windows Phone 7.
Microsoft may unveil a version of its Windows operating system that runs on the ARM (Nasdaq: ARMHY) chip platform at the Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas in Jan.

The software will be tailored for battery-powered devices such as tablet computers and other handhelds.

ARM chips consume less power than those from Intel  or AMD , and they are used extensively in mobile devices.

Why Wrestle With ARM?

Offering a version of Windows for the ARM processor will give Microsoft more heft in the tablet and very light PC markets.
"Windows Phone 7 is too light, and Microsoft recognizes that this new platform will need to be for the next PC and also address stronger threats from Apple's  iOS andGoogle's  Chrome OS," Enderle explained.
"So, it's a rethinking of Microsoft's PC platform and not an extension of its smartphone platform"

Apple Making An iPad mini?

An iPad mini has been spotted in the wild! Does it look like Apple has finally given in to the 17.8-cm (7-inch) tablet space

Apple might become even more competitive in the tablet space. Apple's iPad, even when it offers a bigger screen size and loads of applications from the App Store, retails at a lower or equivalent price than most 17.8-cm tablets do -- Samsung Galaxy Tab is one of them.

This move could also be speculated to wipe off RIM completely from the tablet space. Blackberry maker RIM is slated to launch their own version of the tablet, the PlayBook, in the second quarter of 2011. iPad, which already has a huge lead over others in the tablet space could get a further boost with iPad mini and make others such as Motorola, LG and NEC (most of them on Android) scurrying for cover.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL….. :-)

Sometime in life we feel so blue,
But someone somewhere is not happy as you,
Somewhere far at the border
Where a soldier sleeps missing his loved ones
He silently weeps.. L
Somewhere a mother painfully sighs,
Because a new-born baby dint open her eyes..
Somewhere a poor dad silently cries
When he sees his son begging for a bowl of rice…
Somewhere in an orphanage the little girl is sad
When she misses her mom and dad…
So, at times a reason to smile you may not have any ,
Say to yourselves that you are happier than many
Because life is beautiful
And it is not always blue…
And someone somewhere is not happy as you…
So, smile J hoping that your happiness will reach them too….. J

An iPhone app that acts like a 'therapist' to soothe your soul

The 'pocket psychotherapist' application has been launched just in time to help ease the end-of-the-year burdens of the workplace, shopping and family gatherings.
'Awareness', the brainchild of holistic therapist Ronit Herzfeld and launched last week, allows the ever-stressed, particularly at holiday time, to find psychological solace, reports ABC News.
Herzfeld said her creation could help users discover inner peace in the routine of their daily lives.
Users with 3.99 dollars to spare are reminded by up to 25 gong tones a day to take a deep breath and assess their mental state. The application asks how you are feeling.
Based on the response, the application plays up to 20 videos with instructions on how to reduce stress. It also gives you about 400 inspirational quotes, such as 'God gave burdens, also shoulders'.
The application also color-codes your feelings and charts emotional states over a day, month, week and year.
The application has 10 moods and under each one there are sub-categories. Anger, can be frustration, hurt or betrayal. For each mood there are two videos.
The constant iPhone reminder to take a deep breath and redirect behavior can teach the user to change behavior, according to Herzfeld.
There are no advertisements on this application and all data is kept private, stored only on the iPhone. It works with or without a network connection.

My TCS experience

                                               Preeti Tatishetty
                                               IT (2007-11) batch
Hi guys I would like to share my TCS recruitment experience with you all !
First of all I would like to say that TCS has changed its pattern for recruitment this year , which is as follows :

Firstly their new rule is that there won’t be any aptitude for the top 5 students of the class. So maintain good aggregates and try to be in top 5 .
Secondly, there are 3 rounds : Aptitude , Technical and Hr .

Ø  In aptitude round, This year’s pattern they have included negative marking i.e, 1/3 for each wrong answer . And there is no verbal included , its purely based on Quant . There will be 35 questions out of which you have to score above the cut offs which they will be mentioning to you. And to prepare for aptitude you need not follow RS Agarwal or Cat materials . Just follow the TCS placement papers and that is more than enough to qualify.
Ø
In technical round , particularly IT and CSE people need to be thorough with the basic knowledge in all the subjects . And be genuine in answering and don’t give fake answers if you don’t know the answer .
Ø
In HR round , There are two types – one is normal and other is stress HR . Just be confident and deal there questions smartly . Be prompt in your replies and wear a good smile when you enter .

Coming to my interview , I was one of those fortunate top 5 in class so I got direct entry to technical round.

In technical round , the interviewer asked me my areas of interests and I told C and Core Java but he dint asked me any questions regarding my subjects but about computer networks And Software Engineering . So be prepared with the basics in all your subjects . And if you are putting any of your paper presentations then be upto date with those topics. Like I kept my paper regarding 4G Technology and he asked me about what is GSM Scam and why it happened . So be ready to face all the questions and Be prompt in giving the answers with confidence and be genuine .
Comin to my HR round , I was little nervous when I entered the room but sir made me feel comfortatble . I had a nice experience in this round . Sir asked me questions like –
                  1. Who is your role model ?
                  2. What qualities did you adopt from your role Model.?
                  3. Why only TCS ? [ Friends for this questions don’t answer as "TCS is my dream company" as this                                     .                is the most common answer given by the students . And the interviewer wont believe you .]
                  4. What do you know about TCS business ?
                  5. What is the latest IT development ?
                  6. Lastly , How comfortable I am with the location constraints ?

So just be prepared with the current IT related Issues in addition to the Issues regarding the TCS and its business clients and collaborations .

§  The HR round is normally in your hands only . Answer him in such a way that the next question by him is in your favor . Just everything depends on the way you answer . Be confident , Wear a good smile on your face , your eye to eye contact is a must . And don’t waste time in thinking just give a prompt reply . Basically they will be testing your communication skills and confidence in HR so do improve these things . Just follow these instructions and you will definitely rock in your interview . All the best guys .

How criminals use Facebook to commit crime..?

London, Dec 20 (ANI): Think giving out basic personal information on Facebook is harmless? You might need to rethink, as a reformed burglar has given details on how a criminal can use your user account as a tool for committing a crime.
"The information people give out on Facebook, when linked up with other information freely available on the internet, is an absolute -goldmine for criminals," the Daily Mail quoted Michael Fraser, a reformed burglar who presents the BBC's 'Beat The Burglar' programme, as saying.
"One year, you might have a party and give out your address. A while later, you might tell everyone that it is your 30th birthday.
"So, if you've accepted me as a friend of a friend, I know your name, your address and your birth date.
"From that, I can go to 192.com and on there I can find out what you do for a living, how much your home is worth - and whether you're likely to be worth burgling.
"I might have already made up my mind because you've posted party -pictures on Facebook and I can see what kind of valuables you have in the house - and which rooms they're in. Then you go and tell your Facebook friends how much you're looking forward to going on holiday next Tuesday.
"I can go on to Google Street View and see actual photographs of your home. I can see if you have a burglar alarm, or whether there are any bushes in the garden to hide in. And I can see all the alleyways I can escape down. And, of course, I know you won't be at home.
"Burglars only burgle homes if they think they can get away with it. All of this information is likely to leave them feeling much more confident that they can," added Fraser.
Co-operative Insurance company revealed that 36 per cent of users regularly make use of them to broadcast their whereabouts when they are away from home.
"Once you accept a stranger into your Facebook account, they can begin what we call social -engineering - -delicately asking questions to build up information about you,' said Jason Hart, -senior vice -president of -CRYPTOCard Network Security.
"And that can cause havoc. Let's say they got your email address, then they could go to your email account pretending to be you and saying you have -forgotten your password.
"The account will then ask a security question - something like your favourite food or your first pet. Over the following weeks and months, it isn't hard for them to work -conversations round to subjects like that on Facebook.
"Once they have that secret -information, the email account will let them in. And once they are in there, they can find lots of sensitive information, such as your Amazon and eBay account history.
"They can then go to those sites pretending to be you and saying you have lost your passwords, and guess what happens then?
"Those sites send the passwords to your email account - the one that they have already conned their way into.
"Crooks who do this usually use the credit card details you have stored there to buy online gift vouchers that can be traded on the internet. It is a form of instant -currency'
The message is simple: you wouldn't invite a perfect stranger into your house simply because they knocked on your door and said they wanted a look around. So why do it on Facebook?.

Microsoft said to plan new Windows for tablets

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp is working on a version of its core Windows operating system for devices such as tablets, according to media reports on Tuesday, and the company said its Windows Phone 7 software is making headway in the booming smartphone market.
Microsoft plans to unveil a version of its operating software that runs for the first time on processors designed by UK-based ARM Holdings PLC, the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg reported. ARM's processors dominate the tablet and handheld device market.
Microsoft intends to announce a version of its operating system to run on ARM chip architecture, which competes with the "x86" designs favored by Intel, the Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the plans as saying.
It was unclear when such an operating system might come to market, but the U.S. software maker could claim lost ground in tablets and other battery-powered mobile devices by forging a new partnership with ARM.
